AI is giving you the same strategic advice it's giving your competitors.

Regardless of your situation or context.

Research published by HBR found that when you ask the major AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini, Grok, Mistral) for strategic guidance, they all recommend the same thing. Regardless of your situation or context.

They're calling it "trendslop."

When asked whether to commoditise or differentiate, every model recommended differentiation. 100% of the time.

The reason: models are trained on what's been written, and there's more written about whatever strategic direction is trending.

So the model recommends the popular answer, not the right one for your business.

And this isn't fixed by giving the model more context. The bias is baked in.

I use AI every day. I think it's genuinely useful for a lot of what we do. But strategy isn't one of the things you should hand over to it.

Define your strategic direction. Choose your path. Then use AI to help you refine and execute it. Not to define it.

What's your take?
