What if you could talk to a tree?
(And more surprisingly... what if it talked back?)
That’s what’s happened in the Gold award winning Avanade Intelligent Garden at Chelsea.
It’s not a concept. It’s sensors and AI, quietly working beneath the soil to help urban trees thrive.
The tech lets you check in on how they’re feeling - water, light, even stress levels. It’s hopeful. It’s brilliant.
And it really made me pause and think.
In cities, trees are more than objects to look at.
They’re shade. Shelter. Oxygen. Calm.
But they’re under pressure, and they can’t tell us what’s wrong.
In fact, 30% of urban trees die in their first year as a result.
This garden shows what’s possible when tech listens to nature instead of replacing it.
Still, it raises important questions for me:
• Are we “teching” the very things that ground us?
• Are we trying to fix problems tech helped create?
• And are we really listening to what nature already knows?
It’s not either/or. But it’s a balance we’ve got to keep checking.

Would love to know what you think — or how you’re seeing tech meet the natural world where you are.
