Feeling the AI pressure?
According to Google, in marketing, the gap isn’t the tools.
It’s mindset.

The recent study (August 2025) found that:
-
"Yes, some people ‘get it’. But most are still figuring things out."
-
"Less than 1 in 5 marketers are considered leaders in AI."
The shift that can make the difference? Mindset.
Which then leads to the right behaviours.
The mindsets that don't help:
- Fear of Missing Out (FOMO): fear drives lots of activity, little strategy.
- Fear of messing up (FOMU): fear drives pilots that never scale.
The winning mindset:
- Focus on Maximising Advantages (FOMA): treat AI as a chance to get ahead, not something to fear.
FOMA leads to the following behaviours:
-
Partner with AI — extend your capabilities, don’t just automate tasks.
-
Learn by doing — small, fast experiments beat endless planning.
-
Embrace uncertainty — balance practicality with bold bets.
-
Add business value on purpose — make deliberate, not reactive, AI decisions.
-
Reimagine the work — don’t only optimise; redesign processes and propositions with AI.
Luckily this is how I've always approached and embraced technology... whether it was the internet, smart phones, or AI...
I ask myself: "How can it help me / others create something better".
As tech leaders, there's a lovely opportunity for us to help those around us, and in turn our organisations, embrace this mindset to achieve something special.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
