Ai hype has peaked.

Emerging tech and AI2 min readSam Page

Gen Ai has hit a ceiling.... I’m excited. The real work can now begin.

It probably sounds odd that I’m excited by the fact the Ai hype seems to have peaked (attached Gartner image), and it looks like we’ve hit a temporary Gen Ai ceiling... but at last we can get on with the real work that needs to be done.

The various Gen AI models are becoming repetitive and the gap between the different providers is narrow – it's hard to recommend one over the other. Many Ai solutions are falling short of the huge expectations – for example MS Co-Pilot which Marc Benioff (Salesforce CEO) recently said was “no better than Clippy”. Which made me smile. I know exactly what he means.

Many businesses have failed to achieve meaningful results from Ai – it's very easy to get caught up in the hype and either overcomplicate the approach (trying to do too much at once), or oversimplify it (let’s use Gen Ai for everything).

All of that fills me with a huge amount of optimism and excitement for next year.

We can crack on with the real work that needs to be done: Using a range of technology to create experiences that add more value to people's lives. In life and at work.

It's massively important. The businesses that do this well will outperform the competition.

Change is complex, especially digital which moves so quickly. So to try and help, here are some areas that you will need to focus on to make effective change happen (including Ai) in the right way:

→ Team: Internal, external, culture, coaching and support.
→ Foundations: Customer-centric, data intelligence, tech stack, brand.
→ Direction: Business objectives, North Star, Align Stakeholders, Refresh.
→ Process: Identify problems, Implement UCs, Measure & Learn, Distribute.
→ Approach: Agile, innovative, blend techniques, continuous improvement.
→ GRC: Governance, risk management, compliance.
