When I'm travelling for work, I try to make the most of the time.

And I don't mean working. So this Sunday I made some notes as I headed to Ireland.

  • Goodbye to the family, feels extra hard on a Sunday.
  • Harder than the train being delayed, which it was.
  • At least it's going to be quiet, given the platform was empty. So I can focus on a podcast.

  • Randomly stumbled upon an episode of Tony Robbins talking about the six needs.

  • I've heard it before, but forgotten the points.
  • Certainty, uncertainty, significance, growth, love, contribution.
  • Which one do I need to work on?
    1. Love. 2. Making big plans happen, to be able to contribute more.
  • I take it back. Train was absolutely packed (sardines in a tin). Had to turn the podcast off.

  • Stations switched last minute, absolute chaos, especially for elderly people.
  • A passenger eating hotdogs from a jar, with cottage cheese. The smell!

  • Arriving at the airport. Having some breakfast in a lounge to escape the hustle.

  • Lots of people drinking alcohol at 9am. I can't do that anymore and enjoy the day.

  • Sitting on the plane. Taking one deep breath to relax.

  • "I will find you" series on for the flight.
  • Going up through the clouds and seeing the sun shining.
  • An annoying, but true metaphor, about the fact the sun is always shining somewhere.

  • Taking a selfie getting off the plane. Not sure why? For this post?

  • Being picked up at the airpot by Damien Mulligan.
  • You can't beat seeing a friendly face when travelling.
  • Chatting in the car and properly catching up, it's been two years.
  • The weather, family life, politics, Trump in Ireland, business.

  • Trying to absorb the incredible wisdom and experience Damien has.

  • Leadership, helping companies get things moving, M&A secrets, culture.

  • Taking the scenic route and stopping at the Wicklow Mountains.

  • What a view - breathtaking. What a moment to reset.
  • The heather as we head back to the car. The shapes in the heather.

  • Spending the afternoon chatting with Damien's family and eating together. Just lovely.

  • A home away from home.
  • Remembering old cartoons. Captain Planet - we need him back again!

  • Final catch-up in the car to the hotel.

  • Chatting about marketing and sales, and how to create moments that keep you positive.
  • For me it's running. Reading and learning. Being with people (just like today).

  • Calling Gemma to see how her day was with the kids.

  • Glass of wine, last episode of "I will find you".

  • I pondered on the six needs again from the podcast in the morning.

  • Then realised a day like today, was a perfect mix of them all.
  • Funny how the universe works.

  • Bed
